Wizz Air pet policy

Wizz Air pet policy 2026 | What to know about flying with dogs and cats

Wizz Air keeps things very simple — no pets are allowed on board, neither in the cabin nor in the hold. That applies to all routes and all types of pets. The one exception is for recognised assistance dogs that accompany passengers who rely on them.

Overview of Wizz Air pet policy

Wizz Air keeps its pet rules extremely simple — no pets are allowed on board, neither in the cabin nor in the hold. This applies to all routes, all aircraft, and all animals. The only exception is for recognised assistance dogs travelling with passengers who depend on them.

So if you were hoping to fly with your dog or cat, Wizz Air unfortunately won’t be the airline for that trip. The good news is that Europe has plenty of pet-friendly airlines — and we’ll share reliable alternatives a bit further down.

Who can actually bring a dog on Wizz Air flights

Even though Wizz Air doesn’t accept pets at all, assistance dogs are allowed, however it is important to know that they must meet the airline’s criteria and travel with the correct documentation.

This includes:

  • A certified guide dog,
  • A service dog trained by a recognised organisation,
  • A psychiatric assistance dog (in some cases, depending on local regulations and route).

You’ll need to notify Wizz Air in advance and have all documents ready for check-in, including proof of training, vaccination records, and your dog’s ID.

For everyone else — unfortunately no.
Even very small dogs, emotional support dogs, or pets in carriers aren’t permitted.

Why Wizz Air doesn’t allow pets in cabin or hold

Wizz Air operates as an ultra low-cost airline, where everything is designed for fast turnarounds and simple processes. Pet handling would slow things down, add extra logistics, and require dedicated procedures — the opposite of their model.

So while many other European airlines allow pets in cabin (and sometimes in the hold), Wizz Air has no plans to change their policy for now.

Alternatives to Wizz Air for pet travel

If you need to fly with your dog or cat, these airlines are far more pet-friendly and allow small pets in cabin on many routes:

  • Lufthansa – very reliable with pets, great cabin rules
  • KLM – pet-friendly and organised
  • Air France – allows pets in cabin on most European flights
  • ITA Airways – popular especially after Italy’s 2025 rule change
  • Vueling – budget-friendly cabin travel for small pets

Is Wizz Air pet in cabin ever possible?

Wizz Air pet in cabin is not available, even if your dog fits the classic 8 kg cabin limit used by many European carriers.

Even if your pet travels quietly in a soft carrier, Wizz Air doesn’t make any exceptions and the only dog allowed in the cabin is an officially recognised assistance dog.

Final thoughts on the Wizz Air dog policy

Wizz Air is together with Ryanair one of the most strict European airlines when it comes to pets. Only assistance dogs are allowed — and even then, you need advance approval.

So if you are planning an adventure with your pet, we definitely recommend you to pick another airline – and luckily, there are plenty of good ones across Europe.
