For most dog owners, nothing beats having your pup by your side – and that’s exactly what a pet friendly cabin allows. You get privacy, control, and peace of mind knowing your dog isn’t stuck in a kennel or alone in the car. Plus, you get quick access to the outdoor pet deck.

2. Onbard kennels

If cabins aren’t available – or just not in your budget – onboard kennels are the next best thing. They’re in quiet areas set aside for pets.

You cannot be with your dog the whole time if they’re in a kennel, but Brittany Ferries does allow visits at set times during the crossing, so you’ll get the chance to check in, top up water, and make sure your dog is doing okay.

3. Staying in your car

On selected routes, you’re allowed to leave your dog in your car on the vehicle deck. This option isn’t suitable for all dogs – the car deck can be noisy and temperatures vary – but for some, being in their own familiar space is less stressful than being moved to a kennel or cabin.

Keep in mind: during the sailing, you won’t be able to access your car.

Booking & fes for Brittany Ferries pets on board

Booking a pet-friendly cabin works just like booking any other cabin – except these sell out much faster. Add your pet when selecting your cabin online, but note: not all ships or routes offer pet cabins, and pets aren’t allowed in standard rooms.

The pet fee depends on the route:

• From UK to France: from £35 per pet each way
• From UK to Spain: a flatter rate of £50 per pet each way

Onboard kennels are usually cheaper if they’re available. Technically, leaving your dog in the vehicle is free, but this option may bring its own challenges and isn’t always permitted.

Travel requirements

Get your dog’s travel documents sorted well before you sail. Brittany Ferries won’t ask for them when you book, but they will check everything at the port – and if anything’s off, you’re not going anywhere.

Your pet needs a microchip, rabies vaccination (at least 21 days old) and either an EU Pet Passport or an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) if you’re travelling from the UK.
